மறைந்தார் தென் ஆப்ரிக்காவின் "மகாத்மா" மண்டேலா

நெல்சன் மண்டேலா (Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, 18 ஜுலை 1918 – 5 டிசம்பர் 2013),

தென்னாப்பிரிக்காவின் மக்களாட்சிமுறையில் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்ட முதல் குடியரசுத் தலைவர். அவர் நிறவெறிக்கு எதிராகப் போராடிய முக்கிய தலைவர். தொடக்கத்தில் அறப்போர் (வன்முறையற்ற) வழியில் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டிருந்த இவர், பிறகு ஆப்பிரிக்க தேசிய காங்கிரஸின் இராணுவப் பிரிவுக்கு தலைமை தாங்கினார். இவர்கள் மரபுசாராகெரில்லாப் போர்முறைத் தாக்குதலை நிறவெறி அரசுக்கு எதிராக நடத்தினர். மண்டேலாவின் 27 ஆண்டு சிறைவாசம், நிறவெறிக் கொடுமையின் பரவலாக அறியப்பட்ட சாட்சியமாக விளங்குகிறது. சிறையின் பெரும்பாலான காலத்தை இவர்ராபன் தீவில் சிறிய சிறை அறையில் கழித்தார். 1990 இல் அவரது விடுதலைக்கு பிறகு அமைதியான முறையில் புதியதென்னாப்பிரிக்கக் குடியரசு மலர்ந்தது. மண்டேலா, உலகில் அதிகம் மதிக்கப்படும் தலைவர்களில் ஒருவராக விளங்கினார்.

மண்டேலா, இனவெறி ஆட்சியில் ஊறிக்கிடந்த தென்னாபிரிக்காவை மக்களாட்சியின் மிளிர்வுக்கு இட்டுச் சென்றவர். அமைதிவழிப் போராளியாக, ஆயுதப் போராட்டத் தலைவனாக, தேசத்துரோகக் குற்றம் சுமத்தப்பட்ட குற்றவாளியாக, 27 ஆண்டுகள் சிறையில் வாடி பின்னர் விடுதலையாகி குடியரசு தலைவராக, அமைதிக்கான நோபல் பரிசு பெற்றவராக இவரின்அரசியல் பயணம் தொடர்ந்தது.பதவி சுகத்தை விடாமல் பிடித்துகொண்டிருக்கும் இன்றைய அரசியல் வாதிகளுக்கு மத்தியில் தான் வேறுபட்டவன் என்பதை காட்டியவர் சூன் 2008ல் பொது வாழ்க்கையிலிருந்து விலகுவதாக அறிவித்தார்.

நேரு சமாதான விருது

உலக சமாதானத்துக்காக மண்டேலா ஆற்றிய சேவைகளைப் பாராட்டி அவர் சிறையில் இருக்கும்போதே இந்திய அரசு "நேரு சமாதான விருது" வழங்கியது. கணவர் சார்பில் வின்னி டெல்லிக்கு வந்து அந்த விருதைப் பெற்றார்.

பாரத ரத்னா விருது

1990-ல் இந்தியாவின் 'பாரத ரத்னா' விருதும் வழங்கப்பட்டது. நெல்சன் மண்டேலா ஒருவருக்கு மட்டுமே இந்தியர் அல்லாத ஒருவருக்கு பாரத ரத்னா விருது வழங்கப்பட்டது.^[7]

நோபல் பரிசு

1993 இல் உலக அமைதிக்கான நோபல் பரிசும் இவருக்கு வழங்கப்பட்டது. அமைதி மற்றும் நல்லிணக்கத்துக்கான மகாத்மா காந்தி சர்வதேச விருது நெல்சன் மண்டேலாவுக்கு வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.^[8]

சர்வதேச நெல்சன் மண்டேலா தினம்

தென்னாப்பிரிக்க தலைவர் நெல்சன் மண்டேலாவின் பிறந்த நாளான ஜூலை 18ம் தேதியை சர்வதேச நெல்சன் மண்டேலா தினமாக ஐ.நா அறிவித்துள்ளது.^[9]

இங்கிலாந்து நாடாளுமன்ற சதுக்கத்தில் திருவுறுவச்சிலை

ரசிகர்கள், அரசியல்வாதிகள் மற்றும் ஆயிரக்கணக்கான பிரபலங்கள் முன்னிலையில், சர் வின்ஸ்டன் சர்ச்சில் மற்றும் ஆபிரகாம் லிங்கன் அருகில் உரிய நெல்சன் மண்டேலாவின் ஒரு வெண்கல சிற்பம் 30 ஆகஸ்ட் 2007 இல் இங்கிலாந்து பாராளுமன்ற சதுக்கத்தில் வைக்கப்பட்டது. அது குறித்த ஒரு உரையில், நெல்சன் மண்டேலா பாராளுமன்ற சதுக்கத்தில் கருப்பு மனிதன் ஒருவனின் சிலை இருக்கும் என்று 1962 இல் கண்ட கனவு நிறைவேறியது என்று கூறினார்.^[10]

நிறவெறி கொள்கைகளுக்கு எதிரான போராட்டத்துக்கு தனது வாழ்நாளையே அர்ப்பணித்த நெல்சன் மண்டேலாவை உலக நாடுகள் பலவும் உயரிய விருதுகளை வழங்கி கௌரவித்தது. அந்த வகையில் சுமார் 250க்கும் மேற்பட்ட விருதுகளை மண்டேலா பெற்றுள்ளார் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.^[11]

இத்தனை மதிப்புக்கும் மரியாதைக்கும் உரிய நெல்சன் மண்டேலா அவர்கள் நேற்று தனது இன்னுயிர் துறந்தார் என்ற செய்தி உலகமெல்லாம் உள்ள மக்களின் நெஞ்சங்களில் நீங்காத துயரத்தை ஏற்படுத்தியது. அன்னாரின் ஆத்மா சாந்தியடைய நாமும் இறையருள் வேண்டுகிறோம்.

13 years after port peon’s death, widow wins fight for job

More than 13 years after her husband, a peon with the Chennai Port Trust (CPT), died and eight years after she was unfairly denied a job under compassionate grounds, a widow has won back her wage arrears and seniority, plus 1 lakh in costs.

Justice K K Sasidharan, whose order directing the port to give S Jayachitra a job was upheld by a division bench and commended by the Supreme Court, said he was closing the contempt petition with a sense of satisfaction that the woman was able to enjoy the fruits of her litigation in her lifetime.

Jayachitra's husband died on November 3, 2000, leaving behind her, a minor daughter and his mother. Though she filed an application for a job on compassionate grounds on November 15, 2000, the CPT took four years to call for her bio-data. In May 2005 the port appointed two others who were below her in the waiting list. Her application was rejected in 2010 saying it was pending for more than three years from the date the employee died.

Justice Sasidharan on November 16, 2012 directed the CPT to appoint her within two months. The CPT's appeal was dismissed by a division bench. As she was not given appointment orders, she filed a contempt petition. The CPT then moved the SC, which on October 30, 2013 lambasted it for filing frivolous appeals. The apex court imposed 1 lakh cost on CPT.

She filed another contempt petition to finally realise her decade-long pursuit for employment. But the CPT fixed a lower payscale for her, prompting Justice Sasidharan to pull up the authorities yet again. On November 20, the CPT fixed the correct payscale for her and her seniority would be from 2005 when two persons junior to her were appointed.

Justice Sasidharan said the state should wage legal battle only in deserving cases. Flaying the CPT, he said its officials dragged poor people into unnecessary litigation by behaving as if they are masters of the public.

SMS alerts in post offices soon, Now in Hyderabad.

HYDERABAD: In a novel initiative, India Post will use short message service (SMSs) alert system to deliver dak to citizens. In the new system, people expecting mail, including Speed Post and parcels, will now get an SMS alert before the local postman delivers them at the designated address. India Post (Department of Posts) is making all efforts to launch the system from December second week in post offices across the state.

"We have named the new system 'Mee Uttaram Vachindi' (your letter has come). India Post has tied up with National Informatics Center (NIC) recently. A trail run has begun at some post offices and we got positive response to the service. Andhra Pradesh will be the first state in the country to launch the free SMS alert system, chief postmaster general, AP Circle, B V Sudhakar told TOI.

With the service fully operational, citizens would not miss their dak or would not have to do the rounds of the local post office. At times, postmen find door lock and return the dak without delivering them. "It has become a headache to postmen to visit houses on more than one occasion to deliver the dak. As a result, dak has been piling up at post offices," he added.

"To avoid these problems, India Post has decided to introduce SMS alert to deliver the dak promptly. However, we will need mobile numbers of both the sender and receiver," the official added.

The postman would send an SMS to the addressee an hour before delivering the mail. After delivering the dak, an SMS would also be sent to the sender stating 'letter delivered.'

All-India Consumer Price Index Numbersfor Industrial Workers on Base 2001=100 for the Month of March 2012

All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) on base 2001=100 for the month of March, 2012 increased by 2 points and stood at 201 (two hundred one).

The point to point rate of inflation based on CPI-IW(General) for the month of March, 2012 is 8.65% as compared to 7.57% in February, 2012. Inflation based on Food Index attained the level of 8.16% in March, 2012 as compared to 5.08% in February, 2012.

Upto March 2012, DA raised to 3 %

The DOP will computerise all its 1.55 lakh post offices across country by 2013

Infosys, TCS, Sify ,Reliance bag Postal Department's technology projects

The Department of Post (DoP) has issued Letters of Intent (LoIs) to Infosys, TCS, Sify and Reliance Communications Infrastructure for different technology advancement projects."Department is trying to induct technology in a big way. There are eight RFPs (Request for Proposal) we have floated and issued Letter of Intent in five (projects) to companies which include Infosys, TCS, Sify and Reliance," Secretary (Posts) Manjula Parasher told reporters here.The Department has got approval of Rs 1,877.2 crore to be spend across these projects over period of two years and will seek additional funds when the need arises.
"Funds of Rs 1,877.2 crore have been approved. We will go ahead with that. We may need more money because implemented in some of the cases may last over period of six and half to nine years," she said.
DoP has issued LoI to Infosys for two projects which are Rural System and Financial Services Integration, Tata Consultancy Services for Change Management, Sify for Network Integration and Reliance Communications Infrastructure for Data Centre.

She said contract agreement with these companies will be signed shorty after these projects will start.
Under technology advancement program, DoP will put all necessary softwares in place along with procurement of requisite IT hardwares.
Secretary (Posts) added that the department will computerise all its 1.55 lakh post offices across country by 2013 with over 24,000 department post offices already computerised by month end.
